One of the most important things you can do to help end the killing is know the answers to important questions. The pro-choice movement has cleverly cloaked the reality of abortion with pleasant words such as “choice”, and as a result, being pro-choice in many ways has become synonymous with being compassionate. Knowing the best way to convey the pro-life position can give you the confidence you need to stand up for your pro-life convictions whenever the opportunity arrises.
Whether it’s in high-school or university classrooms or in the workplace, pro-life voices have been effectively silenced, and one of the reasons for this is simply a lack of knowledge. Pro-lifers have been cowed into silence by forceful questions such as: “Are you really going to force an eleven-year-old to give birth to her rapist’s baby?” Or, “Do you really think it’s okay to allow a high-school student be bullied so much that she commits suicide just because she got pregnant?” These questions have too often left pro-lifers with little or nothing to say, as they attempt to stumble around the question or mumble something like: What about the baby’s choice?
There are concise answers to these questions that will place the burden of proof on the opposite side. Reading pro-life apologetics books such as Randy Alcorn’s Pro-Life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments, Scott Klusendorf’s The Case for Life, or Stephanie Gray’s Love Unleashes Life will give you valuable insights on how to reply to the difficult questions mentioned and many more. Attending pro-life trainings in your area or arranging a training with a CCBR presenter yourself is another easy way to educate yourself on the most effective ways to communicate your pro-life position.
Many people in Canada still call themselves pro-life. The question is: Where are they? The reason many people remain silent is not necessarily a lack of pro-life convictions but a lack of confidence in their ability to communicate these convictions effectively. Gaining that confidence and taking or creating opportunities to speak to those around you, from you family and coworkers, to your doctor and political representatives, equipping yourself with powerful pro-life apologetics is essential to making abortion unthinkable in Canada.
